Explanation of Online Sources:

Science.gov is an interagency initiative of 19 U.S. government science organizations within 15 Federal Agencies. These agencies form the voluntary Science.gov Alliance which governs Science.gov. cience.gov is a gateway to government science information and research results. Currently in its fifth generation, Science.gov provides a search of over 60 scientific databases and 200 million pages of science information with just one query, and is a gateway to over 2200 scientific Websites (see Science.gov fact sheet).

EPA represents the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

WorldWideScience.org is a global science gateway—accelerating scientific discovery and progress through a multilateral partnership to enable federated searching of national and international scientific databases and portals.

Linknovate is an online source to rapidly discover relevant publications and related experts in a given scientific domain.

TSOP: The Society of Organic Petrology is a society for scientists and engineers involved with coal petrology, kerogen petrology, organic geochemistry and related disciplines.

G. Shanmugam’s activities on deep-water sandstones in China in 2014

His research and publications on “Deep-water petroleum sandstones” have been gaining increasing attention among the oil companies, universities, and the government in China. Three activities in 2014 are:
1. In April 2014, his 2012 book “New perspectives on deep-water sandstones: Origin, recognition, initiation, and reservoir quality” (Amsterdam, Elsevier, Handbook of petroleum exploration and production, v. 9, 524 p.) was translated and published in the Chinese language. This was done by the Chinese government and PetroChina. See book cover below.

2. On May 12 and 13, 2014, he organized a two-day Workshop on “Deep-water sandstones” for the national audience at the China University of Petroleum in Qingdao (Eastern China). See a group photo below.

3. On May 15, 2014, G. he organized a one-day Core Workshop for the Yanchang Oilfield Research Institute in Yan’an (Central China) using their most recent core. The Yanchang Fm. in the Ordos Basin is one of the biggest petroleum producers from deep-lacustrine sandy debrites in China.
In these workshops, the Chinese geoscientists were keenly interested in the recent debate on baroclinic currents (interenal waves and tides) and their role on developing deep-water sandy reservoirs See AAPG Bulletin debate 2014)
4. In August 2014, he was appointed as an Editorial Board Member of the Elsevier Joornal:
PETROLEUM EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT.
